Explore the medieval town of Moret-sur-Loing, its fortified gates, riverside walks, and the inspiration it offered to the Impressionist painter Alfred Sisley.

A sweet break by the river

In summer, the main street is closed to traffic, which makes the stroll even more pleasant. You can walk quietly, admire the houses, shop windows, or simply take the time to wander.
After strolling through the village, I treated myself to an ice cream from a local artisan shop. I ate it on the edge of the Loing, enjoying the view of the river shimmering in the sun. Tourists were sunbathing on the banks, while others paddled past in colorful canoes.

Sisley and the Impressionists

Moret-sur-Loing also owes its fame to the painter Alfred Sisley, one of the great Impressionists. He lived here at the end of his life and immortalized the river and the village in several of his works. Today, it’s easy to understand why he found such inspiration here: the light, the reflections on the water, the poetic atmosphere of the place… everything calls for contemplation.

A medieval city frozen in time

When you enter Moret-sur-Loing, you immediately notice its impressive fortified gates, remnants of the town’s defensive past. The cobbled streets, lined with stone houses, give the whole place a unique character. Walking there feels like traveling through centuries of history.

A peaceful atmosphere

What struck me most was the calm of the village, the feeling of slowing down. Between history, nature, and art, Moret-sur-Loing is one of those places where you simply enjoy being present, taking in the details, the river, and the stones shaped by time.

An old stone house with timeless charm.
